Miami is a city that’s all about light. Sunlight, neon light, black light. So who better to pay homage to the power of this almighty glow than our native talent? The Art of Illumination honors the almighty luminescence this Saturday with a series of LED installations created by local artists and designers. The glowing gala will take place at the Design District’s grandiose Moore Building (4040 NE Second Ave., Miami), benefiting the landmark Wolfsonian-FIU museum. Participating artists were asked to use LED lighting to create an object “smaller than a sofa and bigger than a laptop” in a way that “promotes ambiance, beauty, and innovation.” The final products (by designers including Matthew Anders, Architectonica Interiors, and Chad Oppenheim) will be auctioned off to lucky attendees. The evening also marks the gallery’s 17th anniversary. Guests can indulge in signature dishes from some of the city’s top spots, sip cocktails by Bacardi, and enjoy topically inspired performances by Dance NOW! Miami. Also, a pop-up museum shop will sell novelty items benefiting the cause, which is worthy indeed. Seventeen years of upping the cultural ante in Miami Beach has earned these artists a serious celebration.
