Creative inspiration abounds in the Magic City. An uneventful stroll down the street can be a photographer’s dream, complete with lush scenery, quirky and colorful characters, and only-in-Miami details that can take a standard snapshot from good to great. If you’re a photographer who longs to take your creative talents beyond the circle clicking on Flickr and Shutterfly, consider entering the first annual photography competition at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Participants have until May 6 to submit a photo taken on the lush grounds, in one of six categories: landscapes, close-ups, art, daytime, nighttime, and wildlife. The winners will be put on proud display in the garden’s 2008 calendar. Photos may be submitted on paper or digitally, and the entry fee is $15. Visit www.fairchildgarden.org for complete rules.
If you are ready to compete for cash with your creativity, check out the Uncover/Discover contest by Biore and Gen Art. Talented women in film, fashion, music, and art can compete for a $20,000 grant. That’s sweet music to any starving artist’s ears. Visit www.bioregenart.com, and learn more about our local Gen Art chapter at www.genart.org.
