Kyra White’s love for tea is infectious. In addition to owning the tranquil tea shop Théine (119 Madeira Ave., Coral Gables), where she serves the freshest and most delicious brews from around the world, White is taking the beverage’s healing power to the masses. “You need to know where tea comes from, rather than just drink something served to you bottled or already in a teapot. It’s nice to look at the leaves,” says White. “A lot of the time people don’t know anything about tea, so they get stuck in the Earl Grey syndrome,” she chuckles. On Saturday, February 18, she kicks off a weekly course of tea-cupping classes, which begins with an introduction to the wonderful world of tea. “It’s like a winetasting. It’s all done in white cups, so you can see all the different colors. When the teas are all lined up next to each other, it’s almost like a rainbow,” she says. Classes are $25 each. This morning at 11:00, White will give a free chef’s demonstration at Gardner’s Market (8287 SW 124th St., Pinecrest) to reveal how tea can enhance the flavor of cookies, cakes, and pastries.
