Love in the Magic City can be sticky. The air is hot, the wind speed is nil, eyes are roving, and there’s not more you can do than treat your ears to something sandpaper-smooth. That’s right, sandpaper. Because being too sweet is what got you into this love-struck, hot-and-bothered mess. This Friday, reggae crooner Beres Hammond will fill the James L. Knight Center with honest lyrics such as “I see love from a distance” and “There is no reason to be so uptight, now when you got everything all right,” but adds a little Mr. Lover Lover by telling the ladies they’re “the only thing sweeter than my honeycomb.” Sure, Mr. Hammond, we’ll fall into your trap and become mesmerized by your unique brand of lovers’ rock. But will you still love us in the morning?
