It’s parade time once again. The 32nd annual King Mango Strut will bring the party to the streets of Coconut Grove this Sunday, to the delight of Grovites as well as the citizens who drive from all over Miami-Dade to witness the mayhem. The parade, which began in 1982 as a reaction to a kazooist group being rejected from the King Orange Bowl Parade, has become one of the craziest events in Miami. If you think you have to be demure to be a part of the parade, think again. The King Mango Strut welcomes satire, parody, and other hilarity. The slogan ain’t “Put the NUT back in CocoNUT Grove” for nothing. If your natural state is insanity, consider the parade your mecca. What makes the King Mango Strut even better is that it’s free to the public, meaning everyone can participate. There are several parts to the parade, including pre-Strut events and the Little Miss Mango Pageant, open to kids 5 to 12 years of age.
