It took us quite a few trips to downtown Fort Lauderdale before we found the coffee shop Brew’s Urban Cafe. And… this gem is tucked away behind Tarpon Bend — and lo and behold, besides coffee, it also serves microbrews and wine! So Friday night at 7:30, go to downtown Fort Lauderdale (really, no shock there). Here’s your map: At the arms-crossed bouncer in front of Tarpon Bend, go south toward the river, with the railroad tracks on your left, and voilà: You found it! And what does X mark the spot for? There will be an ass-kicking music/art party going on inside — but we’re sure some of the fun will spread onto that street as well. Every month, Dialect showcases the artwork of local artists; their artwork stays up on the walls until next month’s party. And DJ collective Twilight Notes performs with other guest DJs. It’ll be a hip alternative to the norm. As with all the good spots downtown, there’s no cover. And when the party ends at midnight — score! — you’re already in the prime location of Himmarshee. Proceed to your regular watering holes.
