Although he went uncredited and uttered nary a line in the 1998 stoner cult comedy Half Baked, many younger folks instantly recognize comedian Steven Wright as the guy on the couch. Wright is what’s known as a comedian’s comedian, and in casting his film, Dave Chappelle was wise to call upon the respected performer to lend his physical credibility to the cast of then-relative unknowns. The guy just looks funny. But there’s more to Steven Wright than a distinctive appearance.

His voice has long been his calling card – that deep, half-asleep monotone has been used to great effect in films like Babe, Pig in the CityReservoir Dogs, as well as in an awesome recurring role in the acclaimed Comedy Central cartoon series Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Wright’s style of comedy takes some getting used to; his unusual, offhand delivery, coupled with his sometimes confusing wordplay and wacked-out one-liners can only be compared to George Carlin and the late, great Mitch Hedberg. But once you get him, you can’t get enough. His most recent Comedy Central special, Steven Wright: When the Leaves Blow Away, catapulted him back into the stand-up spotlight. Come prepared to cry laughing at the words of a comedy legend tonight.
