August is traditionally a dry month for throwdowns in these parts, but the Pelican Hotel and Restaurant is prepared to introduce you to the Italian celebration Ferragosto. In 18 B.C., the Roman emperor Augustus declared the month would be dedicated to festivals, known as Feriae Augusti. The moon, fertility, maternity, and the harvest were all given props. Later, the day marked the Virgin Mary’s assumption into Heaven. Let the partying begin! Guests will be greeted at the door with free beer, compliments of Peroni, and DJ Paolo Albertoni will spin música alta all night long. Special northern Italian dishes will be offered in addition to the regular menu (we recommend the spinach gnocchi with three-cheese sauce) — for those who want a little dinner with their dancing. In celebration of the Pelican’s fourth consecutive Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator, the entire wine list is 50 percent off tonight, and every Tuesday night, from 7:00 p.m. to close. Dinner reservations begin at 8:00, and valet parking is available for ten dollars with validation.
Tue., Aug. 15, 7 p.m.
