As October inches closer, marking the beginning of Major League Baseball’s postseason, so does the end of another pitiful Miami Marlins season. The Marlins have the worst record in the National League and the third worst in baseball. When team owner Jeffrey Loria fire-sold the team this past offseason, he promised it was for the sake of winning. Fans are showing how much faith they have in that statement by avoiding Marlins Park (501 Marlins Way, Little Havana) and giving the Marlins the worst home attendance in MLB. But fear not, Marlins fans. Young players such as Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez, Justin Ruggiano, Derek Dietrich, and Marcell Ozuna make the ousting of duds like Josh Johnson and Heath Bell look like not such a bad idea. Heading to Marlins Park are the NL West-leading LA Dodgers, led by former Marlin Hanley Ramirez. To undermine any positivity one can feel for Loria’s decision-making, Ramirez is in the MVP conversation, joining other former Marlin Miguel Cabrera. At least the nachos at Marlins Park are pretty great, and with tickets starting at only $9, that’s reason enough to go to the game, which begins at 7:10 p.m. Visit marlins.com or call 305-480-1300.
