Long before people thought to desecrate their bodies with dripping ice cubes and chocolate-covered cherries, tattoos were a means of representing your tribe, expressing your point of view, or proving you were, in fact, a total bad-ass. Though we will one day regret the tramp stamp above our butt crack, we’re honored to be in the segment of the population that wasn’t afraid to let needles puncture our virgin skin in the name of individuality. This weekend’s Visionary Expo at the Doubletree Miami Mart is a celebration of tattoos, art, music, and performance art. You’ll see inked-up contortionists alongside live painting sessions and sounds from the rockalicious Hep Cat Boo Daddies.

There are also seminars on building tattoo machines, oil painting, and more. This collective of cool will happen this Friday through Sunday, with tickets starting at $15 for one day and $35 for the weekend. Friday, the expo runs from 2 p.m. to midnight.
Oct. 9-11, 2 p.m., 2009
