If good things come in threes, Arboles Libres‘ show at Churchill’s Pub this Saturday will be a perfect storm of positivity. There’s the group setup itself: a trio, led by hippie-cute frontman Juan Ignacio “Nacho” Londono, who’s backed by happily rambling players Eddie Moreno and Anthony Genovese. Then there’s the occasion for the performance: the band’s three-year anniversary.
It’s been a relatively smooth ride for the group, whose name means “free trees,” and whose bilingual take on electrified psych and folk goes down well with a nice chunk of Miami’s overlapping music microscenes. For the indie types, there’s the heavy dose of jangle-rock and My Morning Jacket-style guitar noodling. For the world-fusion types, there’s the español and the distinct twinge of romanticism that only Spanish singing can provide.
The group won’t be the only one celebrating a third birthday that evening, though. Hats off to buddies Ketchy-Shuby, another 3-year-old local act unmatched in style. The group’s mix of dub reggae, vintage soul, and funk appeals to a similar cross section of fans and promises a high-wattage live show.
