Spoken-word poetry has always been performed by artists from different walks of life: Allen Ginsberg, Laurie Anderson, and Henry Rollins have all made notable contributions. Now the literary genre has become the voice of a new, mostly African-American generation. Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns is a local luminary, and every venue she flutters to is blessed with meaningful words, poignant song, and cultural awareness. Every week she hosts Speak Your Soul Wednesdays at venerable inner-city establishment Afro-In Books and Café. Come for literary talent and delicious eats tonight from 8:30 to 10:00.
