If the last time you visited a museum you arrived in a yellow bus and carried your lunch in a metal box bearing Fonzie’s image, it is time to go back. Today is International Museum Day — a celebration sponsored since 1977 by the International Council of Museums — and to lure patrons, most local institutions are offering free admission and discounts on memberships and museum store purchases. “Miami in Transition” and “Vik Munoz: Reflex” are on exhibit at Miami Art Museum (101 W. Flagler St., Miami; 305-375-3000 or www.miamiartmuseum.org), while the Historical Museum of Southern Florida (same address; 305-375-1492 or www.historical-museum.org) presents “Caribbean Collage” and a screening of the film I Am Cuba, the Siberian Mammoth at 7:00 p.m. in the plaza. The Jewish Museum of Florida (301 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 305-672-5044 or www.jewishmuseum.com) honors the rich traditions of Judaism with “Avoda: Objects of the Spirit — The Ceremonial Art of Tobi Kahn.” Visit www.miaminewtimes.com for more museum listings.
