After the curtains parted, the audience was instantly led into her surreal, hypersexual world. Draped in a woolly coat, she and her band,…
The Art Basel Miami Beach music news just keeps coming. This time we’ve received word that the Vivian Girls, Exene Cervenka and the Blow will be performing at Pulse Miami Art Fair, which moves to Ice Palace Studios this year. Their performances are part of the fair’s Pulse Miami Performance…
Earlier today, freelancer writer Riki Altman posted an emailed Q&A she did with chef Jacques Pépin. What was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek interview was blown way out of proportion. Pépin answer that he had “hooked up” with 10,000 people he had previously worked with read as an obvious misunderstanding…
If there is one guarantee in life is that Ultra Music Festival’s lineup is always one of the best in the country. Need proof? Early-bird, two-day tickets to the festival, which sold for $99.95, are gone. What’s impressive is that it happened without a single act being announced for the…
Good news Miami! Food site Eater has deemed us worthy enough of our very own section on its site. Helmed by Miami Herald gossip columnist Lesley Abravanel, the Miami section of Eater is sure to keep us in the loop of the Magic City’s foodie scene. Plenty of local blogs…
Last time Santigold (a.k.a., Santi White, formerly Santogold) was in Miami, she played at Ultra Music Festival back in March. Unfortunately, she was relegated to an early slot on the first day of the festival, so she played to a sparse crowd. We missed her set all together because it…
You already know Sander Kleinenberg’s music, although you might not be aware of that fact. You probably first heard it at a certain Park West nightclub at 8 a.m. while rolling so hard you thought you were in Ibiza. But you weren’t in Ibiza — Kleinenberg’s track came on to…
If you kissed a girl and liked it, you’re probably well aware of Rainbow Kisses at Nocturnal on Sunday nights. The week-old party is only one of a handful of lesbian nights in Miami. Maybe this marks a gayelle renaissance, probably set to the tune of something written by the…
If you spent the earlier part of the decade at places like Piccadilly Garden, Soho Lounge or I/O Lounge–all now deceased venues–you are familiar with Peaches. Along with acts like Felix Da Housecat, Miss Kittin, Larry Tee and Tommie Sunshine, she’s is pretty much responsible for ushering in the electroclash…

We skipped dressing up for Halloween this year, but people wouldn’t stop bothering us as to why we weren’t in costume. Being an overworked, underpaid writer is a full-time job and is the scariest costume we could come up with. But enough about us — here is what you missed over…
With all the bad news usually posted on Riptide, this is a nice change of pace. Above is a video local art/graphic design/animation duo Friends With You, consisting of Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, made for Nick Jr., a cable channel popular with the pre-school set. But you don’t…
Miami has Poplife and Fort Lauderdale has Heater. But for a while the Broward party seemed to have all but disappeared. But I have good news for the 954’s indie-dance scene: the party is coming back! November 6 to be exact. The resurrection is happening at the Exit 66 space…
Oooooohhh! This is the ghost of nightlife past coming to haunt your dreams of weekend debauchery. It’s been a while since I’ve recapped all there is to do across the Magic City, but let’s hope I can revive the column from the dead for what’s left of 2009.If you’ve been…
Let us know when you’re sick of hearing the words Art Basel, because you’ll be hearing it plenty until the end of the first week of December. In more Art Basel music news, British DJ Jesse Rose will be spinning at Rokbar (1905 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach) on December 6, which…
Earlier this summer, ¡MAYDAY! released its Technology EP, which is available free for download via Bandcamp. Off that release, the guys have decided to release a video for the track “Red Carpet Affair.” The video features Brooklyn musician and artist Andrew Strasser, a.k.a. Bad Brilliance, who was in town during…

What’s scarier than a roomful of Playboy Bunnies? For $75, you and a bunch of playmates can party from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Playboy Halloween Party at the Shore Club. Bunnies scheduled to appear include Miss December 2005 Christine Smith, Miss September 2009 Kimberly Phillips, and Miss February…
The Ed Hardy T-shirt. Nothing is a bigger symbol of douchebaggery in clubland than it. It’s a faux-tattoo armor for those too wimpy to get real ones. Bedazzled and they achieve a whole another level of douchiness. Oh, and if you’re wearing Affliction you have two strikes against you: you’re…
If you’re 21, Halloween is less about candy and innocent fun and more about whorish costumes and drinking. And if you’re in Miami, even the “candy” loses its innocence. One of the biggest frights of the night is the return of Cameo. Now under the auspicious control of the Opium…
If you’re 21, Halloween is less about candy and innocent fun and more about whorish costumes and drinking. And if you’re in Miami, even the “candy” loses its innocence. But nothing is more terrifying than a theme party, which the Raleigh is threatening to do. Your overused flapper costume will…
Open wide for Awarehouse’s ’70s porn-themed party, the Other Hollywood. Brooklyn’s Son of Sounds and Drrty Haze will provide the cheesy porn soundtrack, and José El Rey and Afrobeta will put on panty-dropping performances.
