June 2018 Miami Restaurant Openings and Closings

Miami’s restaurant scene grew by leaps and bounds this past month with a score of new eateries and bars opening. Notable names include a second Katsuya at the SLS Lux Brickell, M House in Coral Gables, and Wall’s Ice Cream at the Burger Beast Museum. Veteran South Miami restaurant Georges on Sunset closed its doors. In the coming months, look forward to new breweries such as Descarga and Unseen Creatures and food halls like Time Out Market and Lincoln Eatery.

Anthony Bourdain, TV Host, Writer, Chef, Found Dead at 61

The chef-turned-television-host filmed several episodes of his shows in Miami. He would always ask local chefs and celebrities to act as tour guides and ambassadors. The list of Miamians tasked with showing him around included Kris Wessel, Michelle Bernstein, Michael Schwartz, and Richard Hales.

Jack’s Miami in Wynwood Closes as Brickell Location Gains Speed

Jack’s Miami, the small Wynwood eatery that payed homage to famous people named Jack, has closed.The restaurant, known for its Italian-American comfort food, closed a few days ago. The restaurant, which opened December 2016, served up pasta dishes and other favorites by chef/partner John Parlavechio. The restaurant was co-owned by hospitality veteran Alan Roth., who said of the closing, “We are so sad to be leaving this area of Miami, but could not be more grateful for all of the love, memories, and support we received from all of our customers and from the community.”

May 2018 Miami Restaurant Openings and Closings

May saw a flurry of activity as Miami said hello to a host of significant establishments. Stephen Starr’s El Vez opened in Fort Lauderdale, and celebrity chef Lawrence Page brought some Hustle & Soul to South Beach via his Pink Teacup Villa. Wynwood OG Cafeina reopened, and Tap 42’s largest outpost is now pouring at Aventura Mall.
