New Times’ Best of Miami 2013 issue arrives June 13. To celebrate, Short Order is serving up our top 30 tastemakers in the 305. These people have helped shape the Miami food scene into what it is today. We began with number 30 and will lead up to the county’s number one. A Q&A session will be included in each post.
Sam Gorenstein is a 29-year-old Colombian-born Johnson & Wales graduate who’s worked under acclaimed chefs such as Laurent Tourondel in New York and Michael Schwartz in Miami. He made Forbes‘ 30 Under 30 list and received a nomination as Rising Star Chef by the James Beard Foundation. Currently, Gorenstein is one of the partners at My Ceviche, a fast-casual concept with locations in Brickell and South Beach that proffers affordable, fresh, local seafood.
The most influential person in my career has been:
Laurent Tourondel.
When news happens, Miami New Times is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If Miami New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
When I’m alone and in need of comfort (and no one is there to watch or judge), the one food or drink I turn to is:
Anything fried!
What does Miami need more of?
“Neighborhood” restaurants… Seasonal, simple, inexpensive, chef-driven.
You get to vote one food or beverage trend off the island forever — what is it?

You have unlimited funds to open a restaurant or bar — what’s the name and what do you serve?
Still working on the name! Fish and seafood only, from various parts of the country and world.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Working on the full expansion of My Ceviche and developing other projects.
Dream dinner party for six: Who (living or dead) are you inviting? Warren Buffett, Freddy Mercury, Albert Einstein, JP Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and Richard Branson.
