46. Aji Amarillo Ceviche at My Ceviche

The quality of the fish and seafood at My Ceviche is what sets this shack apart from other to-go joints; it’s not really a fast casual restaurant, it’s more of a traditional brick and mortar that does take out. This is because when you place an order for a taco, burrito, or purchase a container of ceviche, you walk out with the same goods that you would get at a real restaurant, with a real chef doing some really good seafood sourcing.

The shrimp version is pictured here, with skinny slices of flesh that appear like ribbons floating in “Florida citrus,” which manages to carry off the distinct taste of orange without overpowering the ceviche’s components. Whether you go for the shrimp, octopus or local fish mix, (medium, $11.75; large $14.75; add $1.95 for the fish) the aji amarillo is our favorite seafood soak on the menu. This popular Peruvian chile adds subtle verve to the overall flavor of whatever protein is bathed in it. The giant anchor items of corn and sweet potato worried us at first. How could all that juice be good for those types of veggies? Yet both are firm, only slightly softened on the outside from the surrounding liquid. Oh, and you may have heard, they sell Stone Crab claws too.
