Books & Books is Miami’s best independent bookseller with an emphasis on quality literature and author-driven appearances. Books & Books has always been supportive of the local foodie community, as a longtime sponsor of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, as well as by hosting numerous chefs for book signings and cooking demonstrations. Although a recent talk by former Gourmet editor Ruth Reichl was canceled at the last minute due to the author’s broken foot, there are some amazing upcoming gourmet events in May and June.

This month, local barbecue guru Steven Raichlen will be the main attraction at Books & Books’ Coral Gables location. Raichlen, who has written numerous cookbooks on the topic, will be discussing barbecue on a global scale. Fittingly, his latest tome is called Planet Barbecue. There will also be live music and barbecue food stations. The event takes place on May 15 at 7 p.m. A few nights later, on May 19, the Food Network’s Daisy Martinez will be giving tips from her latest cookbook, Daisy: Morning, Noon and Night, also at the Coral Gables store.

Perhaps the most anticipated happening on Books & Books’ calendar is the appearance by ornery food personality Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain, who hosts the show No Reservations on the Travel Channel, will be talking up his new book, Medium Raw, at the Lincoln Theatre on June 30. Short Order will be in the front row for that.
