If there’s one thing we love more than food, it’s food-related gadgets. So, when we heard about the hands-free Whopper holder that Burger King gave out in limited supply last week to fans in Puerto Rico, we were praying for the invention to make it to Miami.
Only problem? The hands-free Whopper holder never really existed in the first place.
According to CNBC, Burger King sent a statement to them stating, “The video featuring a ‘hands-free’ Whopper Sandwich holder was produced by an agency in Puerto Rico to celebrate the brand and the iconic Whopper Sandwich in a humorous way. However, the product depicted in the spot was not produced, or distributed to guests as some reports indicate.”
Here’s what actually happened. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Burger King to open in Puerto Rico, the Miami-based fast-food giant hired an agency to produce a video about a “special gift” given to Burger King superfans — a plastic shoulder harness designed to hold a Whopper. The video apparently shows some of those fans using their hands-free device to eat Whoppers while walking the dog, polishing their nails, typing, and ballroom dancing.

But then the video and accompanying website, handsfreewhopper.com (which is currently down), went viral, with various blogs and news organizations (including AdWeek) covering the story.
Too bad, because the hands-free Whopper could have been the best food-related invention since the Frankformer.
