For lease signs now grace the windows of La Moon restaurant on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. Calls to the restaurant’s phone number were forwarded to its Eighth Street location, where an employee confirmed the Gables spot closed last week.
The restaurant must have been hurting, for on my last visit in early December, our server refused to offer my party regular water. And she did so repeatedly insisting she was following management’s orders to serve only bottled water. Yeah, that didn’t go over too well at our table, especially given that we were a large group ordering quite a bit of beer and food.
I’ll miss the late-night orders of empanadas during parties, but maybe the downsizing will refocus the owners’ attention on the original location — it could use a little love.
