When Eating House began as a pop-up, it served unique dinners by night at a quaint lunch-counter restaurant. Then the popular temporary eatery took over Café Ponce’s luncheonette for good last fall, transforming the space via handmade furnishings and artful walls.

But the intimate spot just begs for lunch service. Finally, chef/owner Giorgio Rapicavoli has caved in with the announcement of weekday lunch, beginning Monday, September 2.

Lunch, served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, will be headed by Eating House sous-chef Adriana “Lip” Egozcue. In case you were wondering, it was Egozcue onstage with Rapicavoli at the recent New Times Iron Fork chefs’ competition. And it was the combined Eating House culinary team that won the honors that evening.

The lunch menu, like the dinner menu, will change frequently, but expect to see hearty and quick meals such as salads, healthful sandwiches, tacos, and fun desserts — all with the signature Eating House spin. Examples include chilled corn soup with lime crema, queso cotija, and chili de arbol; young kale salad with “caesar” vinaigrette and ripped croutons; a bánh mì salad with chicken, lettuce, carrots, herbs, and nuoc cham; brocolli cheesesteak with fontina, charred broccoli, and pickled onions; and a Baja taco of the day featuring fresh seafood, cabbage slaw, roasted lime, and Sra. Lip’s salsa. Full lunch menus will be posted on the Eating House website daily. Lunch items will be priced at $15 or less.

Expect to bring back extra desserts for the office, because when your co-workers see you enjoying some WTF cookies and a dirt cup at your desk, you’ll be forced to share.

Speaking of work, Eating House’s lunches are designed to get you back to the grind in 30 minutes or less. Plus, the restaurant is planning on local lunch delivery in the next few weeks (locations to be announced).
