The Key Largo Conch House

Located just an hour from Miami, the Key Largo Conch House affords a scenic drive and a delicious, reasonable brunch. This quaint Victorian home, nestled back off the road amid a yard of trees, has indoor and outdoor seating (on the porch) and a half-dozen signature Benedict dishes.

I ordered the cracked conch Benedict. Three poached eggs are presented on an English muffin with a slice of tomato and just the right serving of holandaise sauce. A lobster conch ceviche, which could just as easily stand on its own as a worthy menu item, tops the Benedict. And a crisp strip of fried conch lies across the side of the plate, ready to be cut and smeared in the egg and holandaise. A portion of home fries also accompanies this dish. The key lime mimosa is a refreshingly sweet splash that offsets the savory cracked conch Benedict.

The Sugarloaf Food Company

Alongside Overseas Highway on Summerland Key stands the Sugarloaf Food Company. With a striped awning and porch wrapped with white railing, the exterior is a homey indication of the treasures on the inside. The quaint eatery serves homemade delectables such as sandwiches, salads, breakfast items, gelato, and a case of baked goods too good to pass up. The coconut key lime bar has just the right amount of key lime tartness in a creamy mixture spread atop a thick graham-cracker crust and dusted in toasted coconut. There’s even a freezer stacked with premade entrées.
