The Magic City is home to countless restaurant imports, but Petit Miami is one of the few to arrive at our shores via Milan. Despite its French name, this month-old Sunset Harbour spot is actually an Italian bistro.
With the exception of salmon teriyaki and seared tuna tartare with yuzu sauce, Petit’s repertoire consists of classic, unfussy Italian fare. As for the space, the interior and roomy exterior boast a Mediterranean-chic décor.
Especially lovely is the backyard, with colorful ceramic-tile tabletops, twinkle-light-covered trees, and an Italian soundtrack.

Short Order popped by recently to sample some menu items. Here’s what we ordered:
Vitello tonnato ($16) is a traditional Italian dish featuring slices of cold veal topped with a thick, creamy sauce flavored with tuna.
We also sampled a lobster spaghetti dish ($28). The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the tomato sauce was flavorful without being overwhelming. However, it’s pricey considering there wasn’t too much lobster.
The fresh sea bass fillet with asparagus and cherry tomatoes was drizzled with olive oil ($29).
Petit’s zabaglione ($9), an Italian custard dessert, was served cold — but you can also order it warm. It featured caramelized walnuts and a side of roasted pears. This dessert tasted like a sophisticated version of ice cream and was surprisingly light.
