Producers pf the uber-popular reality TV show Top Chef were in town recently looking for a few good cooks to compete for a $100,000 grand prize in their next season.
And one local chef looks like he could be a prime candidate. Mike Sabin, 36, executive chef of South Beach’s Nemo and Prime One-Twelve, admitted to trying out for a spot on the show, after learning the next season will play host to established chefs who are currently running successful restaurants.
Sabin, who snuck out from a busy lunch shift to take a screen test, says winning a spot on the show would mean great exposure for all of the restaurants owned by Myles Chefetz, which include Big Pink and Shoji Sushi.
“They asked me what I would do with $100,000,” he jokes, “and I told them right now, all I’m thinking about is getting back to work.”

No word yet on whether Sabin will be selected to film his TV debut this fall, but we’ll keep you posted. –Joanne Green
