A small slice taken from next weeks meaty Cafe review of 1500 Degrees at Eden Roc.
Executive chef Paula DaSilva spent a decade as Dean James Max’ chef de cuisine at Ft. Lauderdale’s 3030 Ocean, and, even a greater testament to her endurance skills, toiled for weeks under Gordon Ramsay on Hell’s Kitchen. That’s called paying ones dues. The Brazilian native brings a more heavenly style of heat to the Eden Roc — with steaks, by searing them at the namesake 1500 degrees, and with local vegetables, by cooking them with a lovers devotion. Those are two good reasons to visit this establishment.
The 160-seat, earth-toned dining room is less of a draw. While handsomely draped in dark woods, light bricks, and leather-padded columns, with a partially open kitchen and eat-in bar, the decor suggests farmstead ambiance as envisioned by middled-aged businessmen: vintage milk cans and a communal butcher block table in an otherwise staid corporate setting.
