At Subatomic Sandwiches, you won’t find any traditional subs. Sure, you can order steak, Cuban, and turkey sandwiches from the menu. But the roast beef, duck ham, and smoked turkey are all prepared in-house. And as for that turkey sandwich ($9.50), well, it isn’t exactly served with lettuce and tomato. Instead, Jeremiah Bullfrog — the chef also behind the Gastropod food truck — pairs the poultry with homemade kimchee.

Subatomic Sandwiches’ setting is just as unconventional. Located in South Beach at the Wolfsonian-FIU Museum‘s gift shop, the unfussy café is appointed with pretty art books, designer fruit bowls, and avant-garde kettles.
You don’t have to pay admission to dine here, so stop by and try Bullfrog’s eggplant sandwich ($8). He couples the charred nightshade with black olives and chickpea purée inside a long, soft roll. The rest of the menu includes pickled kale with soy vinaigrette ($6), quinoa salad with green apples and lemon juice, and a soup of the day ($6).
