In what could be a brash attempt to enrage some of their well-heeled, Cuban patrons, a handful of Miami’s leading chefs will gather at the Moore Building in the Design District on September 18 to cook for a $250-a-head fundraiser for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.
For a cool grand you can also get a private cooking demonstration from an unannounced chef before the party starts.
The roster so far includes Kris Wessel of Red Light Little River; Aaron Taylor of STK; Cindy Hutson of Ortanique on the Mile; and Michael Schwartz and Hedy Goldsmith of Michael’s Genuine.
National Democratic Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is to be on hand to kvell about the food and thank you graciously (we hope) for your non-deductible donations.

The fundraiser’s lead organizer is DelancyHill partner Marlon Hill. Hill, a Jamaican-American attorney, is a leading member of Miami’s Caribbean community and prominent Obama booster here. In a profile, the South Florida Times noted he was an Obama early adopter who began eyeing then Senator Obama in 2007, shortly before he announced he would make a bid for the White House.
Hill also seems to be carving out a niche in trying to raise support within Miami’s young profesisonal community. He helped organize a “DJs for Obama” fundraiser at Wynwood Walls in April and this latest event appears on par.
