Too often, parades amount to a whole lot of waiting around and not very much action. Unfortunately, Ellen Allien’s My Parade is no different. At first, it seems like anything goes on her second official DJ mix. The Berlinette opens with Midi Rain’s “Always,” an early Nineties house number with a vocal so nave and cheesy that Allien seems audacious to resurrect it. But where daring starts, it also stops. On following tracks, she marches straight through acid, techno, and schaffel. It’s all competently mixed, but lacking the spunk that drove her 2002 Weiss.Mix and the personality that makes her one of today’s most lovable electronic musicians.
