Enon, a New York electro-pop trio, is all about getting your mind twisted on nerve-twitching and completely disparate tracks that quiver through your eardrums in fuzzy, whacked-out waves of sound. You don’t know what to expect next. Not that the songs are necessarily glitchy or strident, but the group knows how to tamper with simple pop melodies by slapping on sexed-up beats and a jagged assortment of noise and synth effects. Formed by former Brainiac guitarist John Schmersal, Enon has had a number of incarnations since 2000, but fans of Blonde Redhead may appreciate the current lineup, which includes bassist Toko Yasuda (formerly a member of the latter band), whose saccharine tones balance out Schmersal’s low and dense voice. A collection of B-sides and singles, Lost Marbles and Exploded Evidence, was just released.
