By now, Jazid regulars might be well versed in the lyrical style of Ephniko.
The Barranquilla-born emcee has been banging out shows in the cozy SoBe spot since his steady stint as part of the International Thursdays Hip-Hop Latino night, which you might recall from last year.
This Saturday, he’ll be bringing the act across the causeway to the soon-to-close Transit Lounge, where Ephniko y Sus Tesos will be performing live for SanKocho, a one-of-a-kind event that promises “a musical stew.”
“SanKocho will be too much flavor for your ears,” says Ephniko, “so get it while is hot!”

But what is SanKocho, you might be asking? Well, traditionally, it’s a soup common in various Latin American cultures. But tomorrow night, it’ll represent something more.
“Sankocho is the perfect recipe that combines a careful selection of the Miami multicultural sound bodega to create an energetic stew that reflects the colorful flavor of the city,” explains Ephniko. “Rooted in the gritty concrete jungle mechanical sounds of hip-hop, elevated by the spiritual philosophies of reggae, and seasoned by an urban Latino musical and cultural identity.”
The Colombian hip-hopper is a bilingual performer and songwriter. But he’s also a third-world hip-hop researcher. And he describes his band’s sound as “a KRS-One meets Manu Chau concoction to get your soul watering.”
