I-20, who lent his deep voice to Ludacris’s “Move Bitch” and Houston’s summery R&B hit “I Like That,” brings a similar brand of catchy, aggressive tunes to his debut, Self-Explanatory. Named after an interstate highway in his native Atlanta, I-20’s music is appropriately fast-paced, with concerns that range from breaking the cycle of oppression in the ghetto (“May Sound Crazy”), to having a wild night (“Hennessy and Hydro” with Three 6 Mafia). As part of the Ludacris-helmed crew Disturbing the Peace, he provides a serious backbone to Luda’s lighthearted approach, so don’t look for much comic relief here, and listen for a number of moments that hint at the making of a true Dirty South original.
