Few old-school DJs have stood the test of time and garnered the sort of enduring fanatical following that UK veteran Danny Howells enjoys today.
Schooled during the house boom of the late ’80s, Howells would land his first major residency with John Digweed’s legendary Bedrock club night in 1991. It was there that he bagan honing his famous signature style, the self-described “deepsexyfuturistictechfunkouse” that would win over dancefloors from London’s Ministry of Sound to New York’s Twilo.
Fastforward to the new millennium and Danny Howells is a world-class dance music institution with a hectic international tour schedule, earning regular appearances on DJ Magazine‘s Top 100 DJs poll and dropping much-lauded compilation mixes for the prestigious Renaissance and Global Underground series. For the latter, he would even mix the 27th installment as a retrospective compilation based on his legendary October 2004 performance at Miami’s club Space.
Needless to say, Howells is no stranger to our neck of the woods, where he’ll be returning for an intimate performance with SAFE this Friday the 13th at the new Mandala Terrace at Andalus restaurant.
