When 12 Argentines with an affinity for ska and rockabilly formed a musical group in 1986, their only intention was to have fun and play their friends’ parties at Colegio Nacional San Martín in Buenos Aires.
Late last year, though, Los Auténticos Decadentes found themselves at El Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, performing for a sold-out crowd of several thousand screaming fans and commemorating their 25th anniversary by recording a live concert DVD.
Now this Sunday, Los Auténticos Decadentes’ quarter-century celebration tour will hit Miami’s Grand Central. Spanning nearly three decades, the band’s catalogue hasn’t included a new album since 2010’s Irrompibles. But this tour isn’t about new music. It’s about the timeless tunes that have kept the group relevant for so many years.
And as for Grand Central, the downtown Miami venue is no stranger to Argentine rock. In April, Auténticos Decadentes’ fellow countrymen Babasónicos kicked off their A Propósito U.S. minitour there, all but solidifying Grand Central as North Miami Avenue’s de facto home for rock en español.
