Those who enjoy reading what Ego Miami magazine editor Jason “Fitzroy” Jeffers has to say will be psyched to hear what he has to sing.
The Barbadian, who has worked as a journalist for the Miami Herald, the Miami SunPost, and the now-defunct Street Weekly, is beginning to explore his passion for songwriting. Last fall, when he jumped onstage at Jazid to offer a soulful reggae dedication to the Most High, he immediately muffled the beer-slogged chatter.
“The Lion of Judah was only a man. I know you stood by him when he took a stand…. So I’m gonna keep shining, shining for you….” sang Fitzroy in “Majesty,” a slow reggae accompanied by the mysterious hum of a melodica.
Fitzroy’s poetic prose is finely tuned to his smooth, Seal-sounding voice, which grooves along on a sincere spiritual journey. His reflective mix of electronica, jazz, reggae, hip-hop, and musings on acoustic guitar will be released this spring on an indie album titled Paradise Low.
