Mexican pop group Reik has come a long way since its inception in 2004. For one thing, two thirds of the trio can legally drink in the venues they frequently pack (in the States…in Mexico they’ve been legal since they were seven). But more importantly, they’ve evolved as artists and as a band.

Their sound has matured nicely from the toe-tapping teeny-bop pop that fueled the rise of their 2005 self-titled debut and first garnered fans’ attention. Vocalist Jesus Navarro’s voice has developed into one of the strongest in the genre and guitarists Bibi Martinez and Julio Ramirez provide far more complex backdrops on which to tell their stories. Still they haven’t lost the characteristics that earned them that interest in the first place. On their latest release Un Dia Mas, Reik continues to deliver catchy hooks and upbeat melodies, only now with three prior albums under their belt, and the benefit of five years’ life experience.

Reik will be performing at Santo (430 Lincoln Road) on Friday, May 29 at 11 p.m. Presale tickets run 40 bones here.
