It doesn’t take a connoisseur to know that Brazilian music offers some of the most soothing and sensual sounds you’re ever likely to find. And we’re not just talking “The Girl from Ipanema” here.
From rhythmic samba to bossa nova, which has influenced some of our own jazz greats, to the psychedelia-tinged tropicalia that emerged in the ’60s, Brazilian music overflows with soul. And frequently, its proponents can be found drawing on music from far beyond Brazilian borders, just as they impact the outside world with the bold native-born sounds.
A prime example is Céu.
The sexy songstress from Sao Paolo has made considerable strides to internationalize her sonic signature — a blend that draws on electro, afrobeat, and jazz while also incorporating her own country’s samba sway.

As a result, she’s earned a pair of Latin Grammy noms, an appearance on Herbie Hancock’s The Imagine Project, and gigs on massive stages at major festivals like last week’s Coachella.
And of course, if you enjoy a daily java or even the occasional mocha freak-a-chino, there’s a good chance you caught her at Starbucks. She was, after all, selected as the first international artist to be featured in the Hear Music Debut series.
