U2 fans the world over can rest easy knowing Bono is on the road to recovery. The iconic frontman has been discharged from a Munich hospital where he underwent emergency back surgery this past Friday. The procedure was successful, however, he now faces a program of rehab and recuperation for at least eight weeks.
This means, however, that the summer 2010 leg of the 360 Tour, set to run through July, has been postponed until 2011. That includes a date originally set for Sun Life Stadium on July 9. Says U2’s manager, Paul McGuinness:
“Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we’re all devastated. For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience. Which is of course nonsense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono make a full recovery. We’re working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reschedule these dates.”
Both the band and promoters Live Nation assure fans that the shows will, in fact, be rescheduled, and urge everyone to hang on to already-purchased tickets, as they will be honored at the new dates. Details will be released soon; check U2.com and back here on Crossfade for continued updates.
