A couple of years ago, Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy was seen as the last great Southern hope. He had the hood respect of T.I. and garnered the admiration of practically every drug dealer in North America. It’s not that he’s overly gangster or that his rhymes aren’t crisp. He’s plenty ghetto, sure, but his lyrics and wordplay are as tight as anyone’s in the rap game right now. It’s just that, well, the hood loves him, and in the summertime, his music bangs out from block to block.

He hasn’t been nearly as visible lately as when he first blew up, but that doesn’t mean the dude is dormant. He recently popped up on the Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige Heart of the City tour when it stopped in Miami, and this weekend he returns to South Florida for another show. This time it’s his own. He’ll be at Spirits Nightclub inside the Hard Rock, which is a good thing. If the show were at a titty bar, that would be another story, but at Spirits, the crowd will be multicultural and not too rough, and a good vibe should be had by all.
