According to voters in the just-released preseason Coaches Poll, the University of Miami Hurricanes are about on the same level as the Florida Atlantic University Owls: Neither team received a single vote in the poll. Every other Division I FBS team in Florida did, though. Even Florida International University received three votes.
The poll puts Louisiana State University over defending champs Alabama for the top spot, but Floridians will be talking about how Florida State University has the highest ranking in the state. The Seminoles come in at number seven. Sitting much farther down on the list is University of Florida, which barely cracked the list at 23.
No other team in Florida made the top 25, but three others got some pity votes. University of South Florida received 12 points. University of Central Florida got five points, and FIU got three.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 6-6 regular season. Well, so are the Gators, but apparently coaches don’t think the looming NCAA sanctions and associated controversy dampened other coaches’ hopes for the team’s season.
