An armed bank robber is on the lose in Coral Gables near the University of Miami campus. The college is on alert, while two public schools with young children in the area, Sunset Elementary School and Henry S. West Laboratory School, are in precautionary lock down.


“An armed robbery occurred at Metro Bank near Cables Campus,” reads a University of Miami campus alert. “Subject is described as a white male wearing a black ski mask and a black or gray jack with a silver handgun.”

“Get to a safe location and/or remain indoors. Close all doors and windows.”

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., and the warning is still in effect.

Police have set up a perimeter around the bank.
Update: University of Miami has given an “All Clear” to its student and staff: “An All Clear has been issued by UM Police regarding the armed robbery near Coral Gables campus earlier today.” No word on whether the suspect was caught.
