Despite everyone knowing that David Beckham is actively trying to bring an MLS franchise to Miami, he hasn’t said anything official about it. That will change Wednesday, when he’s scheduled to make an announcement alongside Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez and MLS president Don Garber at Pérez Art Museum Miami.

There’s not much more information than that, but there were reports last month that the official announcement of the new franchise would come in early February.

The main missing piece of the puzzle in bringing a team to Miami has been a stadium. MLS wants the team to eventually have its own stadium and wanted a plan in place before officially giving Beckham the franchise.

Though the team could play its first few seasons at either FIU or Sun Life Stadium, the county commission approved a resolution to officially assist Beckham in finding a place to build a stadium. A plot of land at the Port of Miami has been the most reported possibility.

Gimenez and other local politicians have been adamant that they won’t spend public money financing a new stadium.
