As evidences by this BuzzFeed listicle the racist folks of American Twitter were none too pleased that President Barack Obama won reelection on Tuesday, and a new analysis by Floating Sheep found that most of the racist Tweets were coming out of — surprise! — the South. Don’t worry though, Florida had the lowest concentration of racist Tweets in the region.
Using a program that combs through Twitter data, Floating Sheep “collected all the geocoded tweets from the last week (beginning November 1) with racist terms that also reference the election in order to understand how these everyday acts of explicit racism are spatially distributed.” Racist Tweets were those that use the terms “monkey” or “n*gger” with the words “Obama” “election” or “won.”
Turns out that Mississippi (Goddamn) and Alabama had the highest concentration of racist Tweets. Floating Sheep used a “location quotient” a score of 1.0 represented the average. Alabama for example had an LQ of 8.1.
Florida, meanwhile, had an LQ of 1.3, tying with Texas and Delaware. So, yes, we’re still a little bit racist, but less racist than the rest of South.

No Southern state scored lower. Consider the fact that we were the only Southern state (along with Virginia and Maryland, depending on your definition of the South) to vote for Obama (probably), that seems about right.
