Eighteen-year-old Brian Beaubern, a high school athlete, is at Jackson Memorial Hospital fighting for his life as he recovers from severe injuries. Corina Gonzalez, 32, is sitting behind bars in a Miami jail facing charges of DUI with bodily injuries. The pair’s worlds collided Saturday night in Coconut Grove when an allegedly drunk Gonzalez drove her vehicle into Beaubern and sent him flying.
Beaubern was out for a late-night jog in the wee hours of Sunday near the area of West Trade Avenue and Virginia Street when Gonzalez was driving, allegedly impaired, through the area.
Her Jeep veered off the road and collided with a parked car, but instead of stopping, it kept going and ended up hitting the teen. The collision threw Beaubern into the air. A nearby resident, who had just moved to Miami, didn’t see the crash but rushed to the scene after hearing the collision.
“I heard this most horrific noise, so I flew out of bed, and I looked out, freaked out,” Renee Sherman told WSVN. “It’s like, ‘Toto, you’re not in Kansas anymore.’ I saw nothing; I heard something horrible. Somebody was hit, and they’re in the middle of the street.”

Gonzalez would not talk to any other citizens who arrived on the scene, but she tried to phone someone after the accident.
A police report says Gonzalez’s breath reeked of alcohol and that she appeared to be impaired. She failed a sobriety test but refused to take a breathalyzer.
Beaubern is in the hospital and listed in very serious condition.
