Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the biggest soccer stars in the world, so we doubt he has informed opinions on local tax and political issues in Miami-Dade. That’s not going to stop him from appearing all over your TV screen for the next few weeks trying to get you to support the Miami Dolphins quest to secure taxpayer money to spruce up their stadium. That’s because they’re paying him to appear in Spanish-language ads.
On Thursday, the Dolphins’ campaign arm, a political action committee named Friends of Miami First, said it is rolling out Spanish-language television and radio advertisements and automated phone calls to voters featuring Ronaldo, one of the world’s best soccer players. Ronaldo is getting paid for his efforts, campaign spokesman Eric Jotkoff said.
A Portuguese player, Ronaldo currently plays for Real Madrid. That team will compete in an international tournament this summer called the Guinness International Champions Cup. The finals, by the by, will be played at Sun Life Stadium.

In one of the TV ads, captured by the Miami Herald, Ronaldo says (in Spanish), “Please vote yes to modernize Sun Life Stadium on May 14 in Miami so I can come back every year to Miami to play.”
You’d think that if the Dolphin’s PAC can afford to hire Ronaldo as a mouth piece they could at least hire someone with a decent camera to film him.
