All 24-year-old Philip Arthur wanted on Christmas Eve was some peace and quiet so his wife could sleep in; what he got, cops say, was a fatal chest wound from the Liberty City neighbor who was blasting the tunes.

Dorian Hinkson, a 51-year-old resident of the Pork ‘n Beans projects, has been charged this morning with second-degree murder after police say he stabbed Arthur to death in front of his wife and kids. In hindsight, Arthur couldn’t have picked a worse neighbor to fight — according to Riptide’s search of criminal records, Hinkson’s been charged with at least seven felonies in the past with multiple convictions.

Arthur confronted Hinkson around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, police say, asking him to quiet his music.

Hinkson “became enraged,” the Herald reports, and then “stabbed Arthur once in the chest in front of his children and wife.”

Arthur died from the wound, and police quickly arrested Hinkson.

It’s far from his first scuffle with the law, based on court records. Here’s a quick tour of his criminal history:

– In 1994 Hinkson was charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, battery, and third-degree grand theft; prosecutors dropped the first two charges and withheld adjudication on the latter counts.

– In 2005, police charged Hinkson with felony burglary, but prosecutors dropped the charges.

– In 2007, he was slapped with two felonies: battery of a fire or police official and resisting arrest, and convicted of the battery.

– In 2008, Hinkson was again charged with felony battery; again, the charges weren’t prosecuted.

This time, Hinkson is being held without bond at the pre-trial detention center. Considering Arthur’s entire family witnessed his murder, Hinkson might finally stew in prison for a while on this charge.
