Jameis Winston may be from Alabama, but the Heisman winner and Florida State quarterback has certainly adjusted to Florida culture. He was reportedly slapped on the wrists earlier this week for pulling off one of the most Florida minor crimes ever: he stole seafood from a Publix.
According to Tomahawk Nation, Winston was not arrested for the theft, but rather received a citation.
“He got an adult civil citation,” a sourced told the FSU site. “If he completes the sanctions it will never show up on his record. They commonly give them to juveniles on first criminal offenses. They are now doing it for minor misdemeanors for adults to lower crime rate.”
FSU meanwhile has responded by fining Winston $30, requiring community service, and suspended him temporarily from the baseball team.

(There is some confusion over precisely what happened. The Tallahassee Democrat is disputing Tomahawk Nation’s report, while the Tallahassee PD has called a 2 p.m. press conference to clear up the situation.)
The news comes just weeks after the New York Times reported that an investigation into rape allegations against Winston carried about the same Tallahassee Police Department was full of errors and flaws. In fact, the Times concluded that there was “virtually no investigation at all.”
Apparently the Tallahassee PD can’t be bothered to investigate an alleged rape, but if you steal crab legs from a Publix, well, they’re on it.
The Police Department will reportedly hold a press conference at 2 p.m. to discuss the crab leg theft.
