Jose L. Alberto, Miami Beach’s former top code compliance officer, has been sentence to 51 months behind bars after pleading guilty to charges related to a scam in which he shook down South Beach club owners.
Alberto was arrested back in April along with six other City of Miami Beach employees. Ironically, on that very day Alberto was scheduled to be recognized by the city commission for his work.
Alberto was the ring leader of the scheme, and told an owner of a night club that he’d ignore certain code violation in exchange for kickback money. The owner ended up calling in the FBI, and the feds set up a scheme to catch the crooked code officers.
Alberto and his co-conspirators ended up collecting $25,000 in kick backs over the course of a few months, but ultimately were cuffed.
