LeBron James helped turn Miami, a pretty solid football town, into a major basketball loving city almost over night, but can he get people interested in the University of Miami men’s basketball team? The Heat superstar has inked a sponsorship deal with the Hurricanes team, and next season the team will be wearing LeBron-branded gear according to The Sun-Sentinel.
UM already wears Nike gear, so carrying the extra LeBron lion logo on their gear isn’t that much of a surprise. LeBron’s brand has also sponsored Ohio State’s basketball team since 2007. His brand will also start sponsoring Kentucky’s team next year.
Of course, people historically care about Buckeyes and Wildcats hoops, while the Hurricanes basketball team has lagged in both accomplishment and attention behind the school’s football and basketball team. Maybe a little attention from LeBron can change all of that.
This isn’t the first time James has been involved with the team either. He was on campus last August and participated in a scrimmage with players.
