LeBron James and David Beckham are two of the biggest global sports stars of the last decade, and according to a British tabloid report the two may be teaming up. The Mail on Sunday reports that James may become a business partner in Beckham’s long rumored Miami-based MLS franchise.
“The Mail on Sunday has learnt that informal discussions have already taken place between the pair and sources close to Beckham say further meetings are expected next year before the deal is announced,” reports the paper.
James, of course, has owned a minority stake in Liverpool FC since 2011 as part of a business deal with Fenway Sports, so his experience with soccer team ownership isn’t exactly unprecedented.
Beckham has also been spotted sitting front row at Heat games.

Of course, whether this is an actual reality, something being blown out of proportion, or something made-up that just sounded plausible enough remains to be seen.
Update: As it turns out ESPN is now on the story too.
“There’s some interest in both sides,” James himself told the network. “David has become a good friend of mine over the last few years, and I think it would be great for this city to have a football club for sure.”
Though, neither article specifically mentions whether James would actually become a minority-owner or strike a partnership in some other fashion.
