So earlier today a pygmy sperm whale washed up along the shores of Delray Beach. Sixty-year-old Chris Hogan who was on the scene decided the best thing to do in the situation was take out his pocket knife and cut off the whale’s tail. Now he’s admitted that he done goofed, but only wanted to make soup out of it. Apparently that’s where the protein is.

“What can I say; there it was, there I was, I goofed up,” Hogan said according to CBS4.

“I cut the tail off. Then the lifeguard showed up and I found out it was a big no-no.”

Hogan was on the beach fishing for blue crabs when the whale washed ashore. While he was hacking away at the tail other beach goers screamed at him, and pleaded him to stop.

He told the others he wanted to make whale tail soup, because that’s where the protein is.

In case you’re wondering, yes it is illegal to even touch a marine mammal that washed up on shore, let alone dismantle one, dead or alive, with your pocket knife.

And, excuse us for wondering, but how exactly is it that someone knows enough about whales to know that their tails are a rich supply of protein and yet does not know it is illegal to take out a pocket knife and cut one to pieces?

“I would have tried to make a soup out of it, like a shark meat soup,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s even possible. I just didn’t know it’s illegal. Now I know!”
